Jason Cooper Shines On Cooper Family Night As Mustang Meet Little Resistance From Simon Kenton Pioneers Win 59-40
Jason and Troy Cooper's extended family turned out in force Saturday night as the Mustangs invaded Simon Kenton High School. Tim Cooper, Jason and Troy's dad, has two brothers who live in Independence and they have sons involved in athletics for the Pioneers. They saw cousin Jason score a career high 17 points (all in the first half), leading the Mustangs to a 59-40 victory that wasn't that close.
While Coop was largely responsible for the Mustangs 35-18 halftime advantage, it was Kevin Smith and Evan McDole who sealed the deal in the second half as the Mustangs ran out to a 49-25 bulge before Coach Mike Code called off the dogs and liberally excercised his bench for the remainder of the contest. The Mustangs improve to 15-5 on the season and will await the arrival of NCC at the SyDome next Saturday night. Box Score: Mustangs: Seiter 0-0-0/2-0, Reilly 1-0-0/1-2, Anderson 1-0-0/0-2, Schenk 0-0-1/2-1, McCarthy 0-0-2/2-2, Mutsch 0-0-3/4-3, JCooper 7-0-3/4-17, Smith 4-1-5/7-16, TCooper 1-0-2.2-4, McDole 6-0-0/0-12 Totals: 20-1-16/24-59 15-5
As is their style, the Mustang JVs toyed with the 5-12 Pioneer JVs for a half and then shattered their dreams, as the Mustangs led by a bucket 10-8 at the quarter stop, 29-20 at the half and then blew the game open in the third quarter with a 33-16 point lead after three and going on to win 48-27 for their 19th conquest of the season. Nathan Mutsch (13) and Troy Cooper (10) combined for 23 points as the Mustangs improve
