The fans who came to Falmouth and paid their four bucks certainly got their money's worth tonight in the 10th Region Feature game arguably conducted between its top two teams, the Brossart Mustangs and the Pendleton County Wildcats.
After trailing early on, the Mustangs took the lead at the 4:15 mark in the first quarter and led every step of the way until the :26 second mark of the final period when the Cats put a short-lived nose in front at 43-42 on a Keaton Belcher steal and layup, only to have the Mustangs tie the contest with :14.2 remaining on a Steve McCarthy front end of a one-bonus.  The missed back end of opened the door for the Cats, and Junior Jon Elrod specifically to drive a stake throught the hearts of the Mustangs and their fans on a contested baseline "runnin' right hander" with :1.7 to go.  The Mustangs could only watch their lifeblood spill out on the PCHS floor since they were out of time outs.
It was a great ballgame which will go down in history as a classic and will be talked about for a long, long, time.
While the loss is heartwrenching for the Mustangs and gratifying for the Cats, it merely equates as a "trip over the track" for both teams who could face extinction in the non-seeded 38th District Tournament come the first week in March.
Brossart failed to get the job done at the free-throw line where we shot a miserly 6/14, including 1 of 5 when the game was on the line in the fourth quarter.  Brossart led by as much as eight points at the 1:31 point in the second quarter and took a six point lead to the locker-room at halftime.  The Cats cut into the Mustang lead shortly after intermission making it a one point game at 24-23 with 5:39 to go in the third quarter and would open back out to a five point advantage on two occasions 30-25 at the 3:29 mark in the third quarter and again 40-35 with 4:42 to play in the game.
It will come down the the luck of the draw to see if these two teams, both ranked in State polls, draw in the same bracket or opposite each other come post season play.  The potential next encounter with the Cats will come in the 38th District Tournament at Bracken County High School.
Senior Mustang Steve McCarthy carried his team through the first half as "Big Mac" accounted for ten of the Mustangs twenty-two points and would finish the night as the Mustangs leader in the scorebook with 13 points.  Jason Cooper picked up the slack in the second half connecting on two long-range bombs, putting up ten points in a valient effort.  Brad Seiter did a masterful job at point guard and accounted for seven points on the evening and Kevin Smith literally controlled the tempo of the game and did all of the great intangible things he has become famous for while only putting five points on the board. Evan McDole who ran into foul trouble in the second half put up seven points but was up to the task of battling PCo big men Elliot and Belcher all night on
the boards.
Coach Mike Code again specifically requested that I publicly commend our sizable, spirited student section and our NOW OFFICIAL BAND and its director  Matt Grosser, and thank them for traveling to Falmouth to support their Mustangs - very impressive .
I notice that Captain Carl Richardson and a few of his pals were wearing SyCenter Psychotic T-Shirts - Nice Touch!!!!!
