Mustangs Capture Third Consecutive
10th Region "A" Title
Beat Paris 66-42
McMustangs (McCarthy-McDole) Combine For 39 Points
McDole Advances To Seventh Place on All-Time Brossart Scorers List
January 29, 2005
On Friday night in the "A" Semi-finals, Evan McDole checked in
with a miserly six points vs Silver Grove but came back with a
vengeance tonight in the championship game of the 10th Region All
"A" Tournament at Paris High School, putting up 24 points for the
game and personally leading Paris 12-11 after the first quarter of
play.  Combined with Steve McCarthy the McMustangs scored 39
points between them, propelling the Stangs into the Touchstone
Energy All "A" State Tournament next week in Richmond for the
third straight year.  On the merits of his 24 points tonight Evan
McDole moves up another notch on the list of Brossart's All Time
leading scorers, into 7th Place,  nosing out Kevin Steffen 1158 to
1157.
The Mustangs were left in the gate tonight by Paris who quickly
opened up a 6-2 lead, prompting a time-out by the Mustangs
coaching staff, which provided the impetus to take the lead at the
quarter stop 12-11, with McDole responsible for all 12 of the
Mustangs points.  The Mustangs managed 18 points in the second
period, punctuated by a Steve McCarthy Three-Point goal at the
buzzer, giving the Mustangs a 10 point lead 20-10 and breaking the
sprits of the upset minded Greyhounds.
In the decisive first three minutes of the second half the Mustangs
reaped havoc on the Hounds as McCarthy duplicated his three-ball
which ended the half to start the second half and stick a fork in the
Hounds.  The Mustangs would outscore Paris 22-5 in the quarter
spearheaded by the outstanding defensive play of Brad Seiter and the
Mustang guard corps, who forced numerous 5-second closely
guarded calls and a pair of "lifeboat" timeouts.  McCarthy led the
Stangs in that quarter with nine points and finished with 15 on the
night.  Combining the efforts of Evan McDole (24), Steve McCarthy
(15) and Kevin Smith (11), Kevin Gray's Bluejay connection were
responsible for a total of 50 of our total 66 points in this
championship game.  The Mustangs led by 30 points at one point
just inside of the five minute mark in the contest, when Coach Code
emptied his bench.
Ryan Anderson led the remainder of the squad with a 3 point goal
and a layup for 5 points and five others dented the scoring column
and will see their name in print in the early edition of the Enquirer.
Steve McCarthy, Kevin Smith, and Evan McDole were all named to
the All-Tournament team and Brett Reilly earned a plaque as the
Mustangs acadamian.
For their efforts the Mustangs will receive a berth in the opening
round of the Touchstone Energy All "A" State Tournament on
Thursday at 12noon in a re-match of last year's championship teams
Brossart and Hazard.  The Bulldogs whipped up on Wolfe County
84-56 to earn a return engagement to McBrayer Arena.  Mustang
coaches Mike Schack, Curtis Bezold and a couple of travelling
companions make the trek to Hazard on this snowy Saturday night
to take in the 14th Region finals.
Tickets will go on sale Tuesday and Wednesday at school and the
sharp T-Shirts commemorating the Mustangs three-peat 10th Region
"A" Championship designed by Beth Sanker will sell Mon-Tue-Wed
at school for the break-even cost of $8.
