Down 10 points with 2:43 to go in the third period Coach
Bob Rowe dug deep into his bag of tricks and came up
with a couple of "quick hitters" that resulted in two Kyle
Lubbers baskets.  He sent his Mustangs after the Knights
full court, which disrupted the Knights rhythem causing
them to turn the ball over resulting in Mustang layups, and
he took advantage of the Knight's zone by green-lighting
Jimmy Uebel to go bombs away for a pair of key three-point goals.

Put that all together, along with some great defense and slick free-throw shooting down the stretch and it spells a Mustang JV come-from-behind win over the Lexington Catholic Knights who were outscored by our guys 26-12 in the final 8:17 of the game and put our eleventh ball on the wall vs ZERO losses.  Jimmy Uebel was responsible for 13 of those 26 points in blue-chip time.

This was a war from the opening tip-off that saw our Mustangs shoot 31 free-throws in the contest, starting in the first period when Troy Cooper went 3 for 5 and continued into the second period when the Mustangs would score only a single field goal but hit on 7 of 12 from the stripe to trail at intermission 17-14.  Credit the LexCath defense for holding the Stangs to only two field goals in the first half and forcing numerous turnovers.

Brossart would dig that 10 point hole as #44 Nathan Novosel struck for eight points in the third quarter all on big man baskets or rebound/stickbacks.  At the 2:43 mark we were about ready to concede that the Mustang JVs had met their match and were about to be beaten for the first time this season.   That's about the time Coach Rowe implemented Plan B and the Mustangs rallied to outscore the Knights 11-2 including a Jimmy Uebel layup just ahead of the buzzer to bring the Stangs to within one at 29-28.   LexCath quickly opened the lead back out to four points 32-28 on a Jordan Smart three-ball and again the Mustangs appeared turned away and set to absorb a loss.  Jimmy Uebel nailed a couple of threes to put the Mustangs back on top and Troy Cooper tacked on a bucket and two free-throws to help hold the Knights at bay.  A three point goal by Jordan Smart, his second of the quarter brought the Knights to within two with 3.5 seconds to play in the game, but two Jimmy Uebel free-throws put the LexCath ball on the wall and sent the Knights back to Lexington wondering what just hit them.

Brossart now leads the series with Lexington Catholic 4-1.  The JVs eleven straight wins to start the season stretches the new school record which gets more impressive with each ensuing victory.  The Mustang JVs will host Erlanger Lloyd on Thursday and Newport on Saturday.

Freshmen Discover Why LexCath Is One Of Top Teams In The State
Wilt Under Pressure
Fall 49-22
The Freshmen didn't fare quite as well as their upperclass couterparts, getting swallowed up by the LexCath pressure as the Mustangs found themselves trailing 11-1 at the quarter stop and 25-8 at intermission.  Things would not improve in the second half as the Mustangs fell behind 32-12 after three periods and were outscored 17-10 in the final stanza to account for the Knights' 49-22 win over our Freshmen Stangs.   The Mustangs will seek salvation vs the Lloyd Freshmen when they return to the NKAC Division II wars on Thursday.

Greg Stortz and Adam Clark led the Mustangs with 8 points each in the LexCath game.  Tyler Curvin took scoring honors with 11 for the Knights.  The Mustangs fall to 4-6.
