| The Brossart Mustangs took care of business on Senior Night/Jayhawks Night as the JVs complete an undefeated season with a hard fought win over the 16-2 Holy Cross Inidians who had sustained only losses to CovCath and Highlands while putting together a nice little season of their own. The JV Mustangs played without the services of thier starting forward Nathan Mutsch, out with a ligament strain in his left hand, but was ably replaced by Kyle Lubbers who had a career night, putting up 15 points. Lubbs, along with resident big man Troy Cooper who completed three 3-point plays the old fashioned way to lead all scorers with 17 points, combined for 32 of the Mustangs 48 points. Jimmy Uebel and Adam Franzen both put up 8 points apiece and again it was Josh Kidney who hit two blue-chip free-throws putting the game out of reach with just seconds left to play in the contest. Adding their freshmen record, last year's JV record and this year's record they are 67-5. Coach Rowe's JV record over the past three seasons stands at 63-6. |
| The Varsity had to overcome a mixed bag of defenses in order to defeat the Indians who had slow-down on their minds. They were successful in the first period as the Mustangs failed to find the shooting touch that they enjoyed in Park Hills on Tuesday and could manage only a 10-9 advantage after eight minutes of play. The secnd half was more of the same plus a couple of three-pointers by Brad Seiter who loosened up the Indians zone and a steal by Kevin Smith which resulted in a Mustang basket gave the Stangs a 24-19 lead at intermission. Steve McCarthy and Evan McDole combined for ten points in the third period as the Mustangs drew off to a 37-26 lead and the Mustangs extended their lead thoughout the fourth period posting their 18th win of the season, 63-41 over Holy Cross and will take an impressive 18-5 into post season play beginning Wednesday.. McCarthy recorded a career high 19 points to lead all scorers. Brad Seiter nailed three 3's enroute to a 14 point night and McDole tacked on 11 for the Senior Night Stangs. Scott Bibbins, who lit up the Mustangs for 25 points a year ago in Latonia, put 17 points to serve as the Indians only double figure scorer. |
