Mustangs Take First Step On Road To Richmond Beat Augusta 96-38 As Troy Cooper Comes From Off The Bench To Lead All Scorers With 25 Points. Janury 26, 2005
Tim and Rose Cooper rarely miss any of their sons' sporting events. Tim even attends many that his sons' don't even participate in - however, tonight was a special night - it was daughter Emily's confirmation night and Mom and Dad Cooper wouldn't miss being there to share her special day with her. Meanwhile at Paris High School, it was Troy's confirmation night too. Confirmation that he can step in and be a contributor to the varsity Mustangs if called upon.

The burly sophomore dominated the paint and scored 25 points, combining with brother Jason to match the entire Augusta scoring output, putting the Mustangs 32 minutes closer to capturing their third consecutive 10th Region All "A" Tournament Title and securing another chance at the big prize in the "A" State Tournament in Richmond next week. OK - the Augusta Panthers weren't the Pendleton County Wildcats, but to their credit they played with guts and fire in their bellies, never conceding anything until the final horn sounded. If they earned anything tonight, it was our respect. The Panthers battled for 32 minutes. Evan McDole scored 13 points tonight in limited playing time, moving him into ninth place on the list of Brossart's all-time scorers with 1128 surpassing Justin Seiter's mark of 1124 points and placing him just two shy of Nick Moher's eighth place standing of 1130 points. Fourteen Mustangs combined for a total of 96 points, possibly the most since the 95-96 season when Curt Bezold remembers the Mustangs racking up 121 against the Beechwood Tigers. Steve McCarthy remains hot putting up 13, including three 3-balls and Jason Cooper also scored 13. The 11-3 Mustangs will advance to face a tough 16-2 Silver Grove squad on Friday night at 6pm in the semi-finals. The game will be broadcast on tape-delay basis.
