| Mustangs Roll Into Elite Eight of 5th/3rd With 71-44 Blowout of Clay County Tigers Seiter and McDole Combine for 32 Points Mustangs Improve To 6-0 On Season |
| How sweet it is!!! The Brossart Mustangs, not the least intimidated by the Clay County Tigers took care of business, connecting on seven long-range 3-Point goals, and limiting the Tigers to 17 points in the second half, posting our sixth consecutive victory of the season in advancing to the Elite Eight of the 5th/3rd tournament, beating the Tigers 71-44. Clay County may have made 27 trips to the State Tournament in the past, but today it was the Mustangs who looked like the Sweet Sixteen contenders. |
| The Mustangs engaged in an ask-answer battle with the Clay County Tigers for the best part of the first quarter when a Brad Seiter three-ball put the Mustangs on top to stay at 16-14 after eight minutes of play. Brad, who played like an all-stater tonight would continue his hot-handed shooting through the second period, hitting on three more long-range bombs to finish the first half with 14 points as the Mustangs pushed out to a 34-27 lead. It was the Mustang defense which took over in the second half, limiting the Tigers to 17 points, as the Mustangs continued to score in transition and capitalize on Tiger mistakes, opening up 50-37 after three periods, and won the fourth quarter 21-7 to account for the final score of 71-44. Twelve Mustangs will see their names in print in the Lexington Herald-Leader in the morning led by Evan McDole and Brad Seiter with 16 points. The stats you will not see in the paper is the incredible pressure defense played by Brett Reilly, Brad Seiter, and Adam Franzen and the muscle post defense laid on Mitchell and company by Evan McDole, Ryan Anderson, Steve McCarthy and Michael Schenk. This was an incredibly fun game to watch and to broadcast. If you were not in attendance I hope you enjoyed listening to it as much as we enjoyed bringing it to you. Brossart now advances to the round of eight and will take on Lexington Catholic on Tuesday night at 7:30pm. Broadcast time is 7:20pm.
