Mustangs And Eminence Warriors Play Even Football For A Half At 8-8 Warriors Win Second Half - Post 28-8 Win
The Brossart Mustangs played a very creditable football game against the Eminence Warriors, up out of the 8th Region on a picture perfect sunny Saturday afternoon at Newport Stadium. The two teams battled to a scoreless first period. Both teams had their chances with Eminence mounting a three first down drive on their first possession but the Mustang defense held.
On the first play of the second period Eminence quarterback Dre Hedges completed a 36 yard pass-play to Ed Berry to put the Warriors on the board and promptly tacked on the two point conversion to make it an 8-0 football game. On Eminence's next possession Tyler Verst intercepted a Hedges pass and ran it back to the fifteen yard line where the Brossart Mustangs then capitalized on the opportunity. Tony Woeste got great blocking from his offensive line, scampering unmolested into the endzone from thirteen yards out, and when Jake Heil connected with Greg Stortz for the two point PAT, the Mustangs and Warriors were tied at 8. Tyler Verst got his second pic of the game thwarting a late-half Warriors threat sending the Mustangs and Warriors to halftime tied at 8. The second half pretty much belonged to the Eminence Warriors who put two additional touchdowns on the board in the third quarter and tacked on a late game insignifigant score on a interception of a Mustangs desperation pass, making the final score 28-8 in a game that the scoreboard was a bit unkind to the home team. Brossart unofficially had seven first downs in the game. Heil was only intercepted on one occasion while the Mustangs picked off three Dre Banta attempts.
