| Mustangs Battle CAL Early Fall To Homestanding Centurions 34-0 |
| Our Brossart football Mustangs made the trek to the derby city on Friday night and played competitive football throughout the first period, trailing 7-0 after 12 minutes. CAL took to the air in the second period, putting up three scores, taking a commanding 28-0 lead to the locker room at halftime. The home team scored once more in the second half, making the final 34-0 in favor of the now 5-3 Centurions. Each of their four scores came via arial assault - from 13 yards out, 10 yards out, a 36 yard pass play and a completion from the 6. The bright spot for the Mustangs tonight was the play of sophomore Chris Bowman, who gets better and better each time out. Bowman recorded ten tackles and had a good night rushing to boot. Tony Woeste sustained a hand injury early in the game and saw spotty action thereafter. Andrew Heeg intercepted a CAL pass and returned it 35 yards, but the Mustangs were unable to capitalize. Brossart was 1-7 in the air, for 11 yards, with a pair of interceptions, while their hosts were 25-40 with one pic, for 342 yards. Brossart held the edge on the ground, gaining 75 yards on 35 carries, while CAL rushed for 55 yards on 22 carries. Brossart was not penalized, while eight flags went against the home team resulting in 40 yards of walk-offs. CAL had 15 1st downs to Brossart's 7. Three times the Mustangs penetrated the CAL 30 yard line but failed to convert. CAL had defeated Owen County 51-6 last week. |
