Mustangs  Victimized By Bellevue Big Plays - Fall 46-14
Handle Tiger Second Team In Final Two Periods 14-0
Again the Mustangs fans turned out in force, again it was a beautiful night for football, and again the Mustangs were victimized by big plays early and often by the Bellevue first team.
Bellevue scored on their first two possessions of the game,
opening a quick 16-0 lead, and extended their lead to 30-0 by the
conclusion of the first quarter and 46-0 by halftime.  Our Mustangs
did a great job defending plays from scrimmage, but were victimized
by several major punt returns and intercepted passes.
Coach Dave Ekstein played his second team liberally in the second
half, and Brossart took advantage scoring two touchdowns, a seven
yard run by Tony Woeste at the 2:24 mark in the third quarter.
Timmy Butts thwarted a major Bellevue scoring threat recovering a Tiger
fumble deep in the Brossart red zone.
Woeste handled the majority of the Mustangs ball-carrying on this night
The Mustangs won a race with the clock in scoring their second touchdown,
as once again Tony Woeste took the leather to the house on the very last
play of the football game.
When the Mustangs completed the two-point conversion, the gun sounded ended the game with the score (4-1) Bellevue 46 and (0-4) Brossart 14.
Bill Klopp returned to the Brossart broadcast booth for the Bellevue game, joining Frank Niemeyer and myself for a very successful broadcast under extremely difficult conditions.
We set up outside of the pressbox and did the broadcast in the dark, standing behind a concrete barrier, fifty-nine steps from field-level.
We did the game via a wireless connection and produced a solid, uninturrupted signal, which included an extended twenty-minute halftime while the Tigers conducted their homecoming festivities.
In other games in our district on Friday night, Beechwood defeated Ludlow 56-6 and Dayton beat Lynn Camp 20-15.  Our next opponent Newport fell to Lloyd 22-7.  Both the Mustangs and Newport Wildcats will be seeking their first victory of the season next week when the two teams tangle next Friday night at 7pm at Newport Stadium.
