Mustangs Notch First Ever Win In Program History
33-16
Over Manchester Greyhounds
Improve To 1-1    Andrew Heeg Runs For Two TDs
August 28th, 2006 At Manchester Athletic Complex
Our Brossart Football Mustangs who more closely resembled a veteran football squad than a first-year product, handily defeated the Manchester Greyhounds 33-16 on Monday night in Adams County, Ohio in the first ever game ever played at that school's new athletic complex.  They too are a startup program comprised primarily of underclassmen..
It was obvious from the first set of downs that we were the superior of the two first-year JV programs.
At the 6:08 mark in the first quarter Sophomore Tony Woeste put the Mustangs on the board with a 33 yard breakaway run on our first offensive series.  The PAT was no good, giving the guys in green a 6-0 lead that would stand until the 6:36 mark in the second period when Andrew Heeg, our junior quarterback plunged in from the three yard line to make it a 12-0 game and Brett Moss became the first player ever to kick an extra point through the uprights at the brand new Manchester High School athletic complex, making it a 13-0 contest.
With three minutes to go in the half Tyler Verst intercepted a Greyhound pass giving the Mustangs another opportunity to score which Andrew Heeg capitalized on - completing a 25 yard pass play to Brett Moss, setting up a ten yard score on a draw play from Heeg to Timmy Butts, making it a 19-0 game and with the Brett Moss conversion 20-0 at intermission.  Evan Harris would intercept another Manchester pass with just 11 seconds to go, ending any thoughts the hounds had of getting on the board in the first half.
Although the Mustang coaches impressed upon our guys that the game wasn't over, the second half was very much a steamy formality.
Two Mustang fumble recoveries, one by Brett Moss at the 4:12 mark in the third quarter, and another by Nick Bezold with 1:48 to go in the period thwarted Manchester drives.
Andrew Heegs second touchdown of the contest, a 50 yard run, made it a 26-0 game and Brett Moss delivered on his third PAT, making it a 27-0 route with nine minutes still showing on the clock.
Freshman Timmy Butts recovered yet another Manchester fumble with 8:42 to go in the match, which sent the Mustangs second teams onto the field for the remainder of the game.
Tyler Verst scored our fifth touchdown of the game on a ten yard run, making it 33-0.  The PAT attempt was no good and the Mustang scoring had come to an end for this Monday evenng as darkness began to set in.
Manchester would get to try out their new cannon on two occassions, scoring versus our second line defensive team at the 3:14 mark and again with :38 seconds remaining.  They were successful in both of their two-point conversion attempts, gaining a measure of respectability while losing the game by a final margain of 33-16.
Coach Rodney Ollier was ceremonially doused by his team in commemoration of his first win as the head coach of our JV Mustangs and the team's first win in the history of the school.
The first thing that you will probably observe in visiting this page is that the photos that appear here aren't the normal sharp, crisp, professional grade photography that we have come to expect from Tim Cooper.
There is a very good reason for this - Tim Cooper didn't take them - I did with my "old-fashioned" 35mm using a telephoto lens that picked up a lot of the haze that we encountered as well as the low light conditions that existed.
The pictures which do appear here are grossly reduced copies of the original.  If you would like a full-sized original contact me by E/Mail at djschabell@insightbb.com and I will be happy to forward you a full-sized original free of charge.

Brett Moss kicks our first ever extra-point and would follow up with two additonal PATs.
This was also the first-ever extra-point scored at the
