Mustang Footballers Go Toe-To-To With
AAAA Boone County Rebels For A Half

Trail 14-7 At Intermission Before Yielding 29 Second Half Points And
Absorbing a 43-14 Loss To Big Brother Boone Co
Brett Moss Extends Successful PAT Streak To Six
The Brossart Mustang Footballers took another giant step forward on Saturday morning going toe-to-toe with their bigger, more experienced counterparts, playing like seasoned veterans, answering an 80 yard Rebel touchdown run with a 68 yard pass play of our own on the ensuing series from John Tallarigo to Ryne Heck who took it to the house, knotting the score at 6-6, and poking a nose in front on the successful PAT conversion, by Brett Moss, his fifth straight of the season.
The Mustangs had a previous opportunity as Brett Moss intercepted a Rebel pass and advanced the ball near the
goal-line at the 5:13 point in the first quarter, before being brought down at the two yard line.  The Rebels conducted a successful goal-line stand and survived a Brett Moss 35 yard field-goal attempt, prior to scoring their first touchdown of the game.

Kyle Arey put the Rebels back in front with 4:14 to go in the first half on an off-tackle play which made it 12-7 and the two-point conversion gave the Rebels a 14-7 lead which they would take to intermission.
Seeking bright spots for the Mustang football program, our guys played four consecutive quarters (two vs Scott Co and two vs Boone Co) of quality football against two of the biggest and more established programs in the state.
The opening minutes of the second half would not be kind to our Mustangs as the Rebels scored fourteen points in a matter of two minutes and forty-two seconds, breaking the game open at 28-14 and taxing our twenty-one healthy footballers who for the most part were playing both ways.
Our Mustangs weren't done yet - a six yard pass play from John Tallarigo to Greg Stortz who took advantage of his superior height to pull in a high pass for our second touchdown of the day.  Brett Moss notched his sixth straight extra point, making the score Boone County 28-14.
Two additonal Rebel scores inflated the final score to 43 for Boone County and 14 for our Mustangs, dropping our record to 1-3 on the young season.
The Mustangs football team will be back in action next Saturday morning at 11am at New Richmond High School across the I-275 bridge.
The game will be broadcast live over the internet starting at 10:45am.

Coach Kirt Prather and Mustang Junior Tackle Joe Gross spoke with us following the Boone County game.  An emotional Joe Gross thanked everyone for their thoughts and prayers this past week as he and his family dealt with the sudden loss of his dad, John.
Coach Prather cited our small numbers as being the chief obstacle to our ability to compete for forty minutes of quality football on a nightly basis.
