Juniors Stevie Popovich, Jacob Rieger, Jordan Armstrong, Justin Morscher, Allen Kramer, Nathan Brugger, and Sean Crowley. Sophomores Corey Hartig, Travis Norton, and Daniel Schultz, along with incoming freshmen Austin Hinkel and Spencer Brown.
Several other players were invited but had baseball commitments and Dylan Dierig met the team in Daytona Beach. The group was be divided in two teams - a Varsity unit and a J.V. Team. Some of the players interchanged on a game to game basis. |
| After coming out of Friday night's competition 1-1, on Saturday, July 12th the varsity fell to top ranked Atlantic (Daytona) 63-52; dropped a 46-31 decision to second ranked Jupiter (Palm Beach) 46-31; and took a 39-32 loss to Lake City - Columbia 39-32; before finding their shooting touch, connecting on seven three-point goals enroute to a 53-40 win over Lexington Henry Clay - all schools with enrollments exceeding 2,000 students.
Coach Code was very upbeat about our team's performances on Saturday, despite taking the losses. He stated that we played well despite having shooting woes, and played extremely well when our shots were falling. Joey Webb, our normally dead-eyed long-distance marksman, came alive in the Henry Clay game and was responsible for the majority of our long range bombs. Coach Code also said that Jordan Armstrong has played exceptionally well, and that Jacob Rieger is playing like a man, raising a few eyebrows among the college coaches in attendance, and Drew, Mitch, Brian, and Justin are all making major contributions. The JVs also recorded a 1-3 Saturday, losing to First Academy's JVs 33-25; falling to the Zephryrhills (Tampa) varsity 46-35; defeating Warner's JVs 51-33; and dropping a 48-46 decision to Lakeland Highlands 48-46 in triple overtime. Nathan Brugger led the Mustang JVs with 16 points in the Highlands loss. Allen Kramer and Brugger have been pulling double duty with the varsity and JVs, while Justin Morscher has been playing strictly varsity. The weather for the weekend was very bearable - high eighties and overcast. |
| On Friday night the varsity dropped their first decision, a four point loss to First Academy, in a game that saw our Mustangs struggle from the free-throw line (6-16) and with the dominant presence of a 6'9" center. First Academy has been in the Florida State AA Final Four the past two seasons. In the second game, our guys posted a 40-34 win over Bartram Trail. The Mustangs competed in the top varsity competition division.
The JVs also went 1-1 after dropping a tough 31-29 match to Fr. Menendez, but rebounded to defeat Seven Rivers 50-31. |

| The Brossart Mustangs varsity hit their best stride, finishing strong on Sunday - going 4-1 on the day. They started the day by finishing out their regular camp schedule defeating Bloomindale out of Tampa 44-36 on Sunday morning.
In the opening round of the camp tournament we defeated Circle (Orlando) High School 55-30, and then ousted top-seeded Atlantic, avenging a Saturday regular camp schedule (63-52) loss to the Sharks, 63-57. We then advanced to the tournament semi-finals by beating Westwood Christian 44-39, and were eliminated by Davies (Sarasota) 46-44 in overtime to end our Embry-Riddle Team Camp run. The varsity finished 6-5 on the weekend, after playing what Coach Mike Code described as "a great day of basketball." He especially credited the efforts of Drew Kremer and Jacob Rieger on Sunday. |
| The JVs didn't fare quite so well on Sunday, losing to Davies 59-53 in their final
camp schedule game on Sunday morning and were promptly eliminated by eventual camp tournament champ, Jupiter 51-33 in the opening round of tournament play. The JVs finish their weekend 2-6. The Mustangs emerge from their camp experience healthy and better off for their experience. They checked into the Plaza Ocean Hotel on the beach at about 6:30pm and had dinner as a group at Chilis later on Sunday night. They will have the rest of night on Sunday and all day Monday to enjoy the amenities of Daytona Beach before loading up for home at about 4:30pm on Monday. Mike Code was extremely upbeat about our teams' performances over the weekend, and has high aspirations for this group in the upcoming 2008-09 basketball season. |
