| Brossart Sports Has Lost A Great Friend With The Passing Of The Kentucky Post When I look up from my desk my eyes come in contact with many mementos of our glorious past in the form of framed newspaper articles about the successes of our basketball program. Most are stories and pictures that appeared over the years in the Kentucky Post, written by Terry Boehmker that included photos taken by Jim Osborne. A three-quarter page story with the headline "Brossart plays giant-killer" and a picture of Scott Ruth adorn the Post sports page of March 17th, 2000 when we upset Graves County at Rupp, and more recently "Small School, Big Hearts" and a picture of Jimmy Uebel scoring against Bardstown as the Mustangs won the "A" State Championship last spring. Another that reads "Brossart Scores First Regional Victory" dated March 10, 1988 and a picture of me coaching the Lady Stangs who beat NCC in that year's regional tournament marking our school's first ever regional basketball victory. The Kentucky Post had always been more than fair and generous with coverage of Brossart athletics, be it of our conquests on the hardwood, one of our many Cross-Country, Track, Baseball, Golf, Soccer or other sport feats or recognition of our coaches and players as "Coaches of the Year" and All-Conference and All-Region. It told of the formation of our football program and reported the obituaries of the deceased members of our extended family. The Kentucky Post ceased production forever this past Monday. It will be greatly missed. I subscribed, but often didn't open the paper, but I always knew that it was there if I needed it, just like a faithful dog. I believe that Northern Kentucky High School sports in general will suffer as a result of the demise of the Post. Sports coverage in the local papers is what makes big events, big events. Saturday mornings won't be the same without stories and pictures from the CovCath-Highlands for the Beechwood-NCC football games. The Enquirer has done a better job of covering Northern Kentucky sports since Ryan Ernst joined their staff a few years back, but he is spread between Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky sports and there is no sports page completely dedicated to our prep sports on this side of the river. We thank Terry and all of the guys and gals who covered our teams over the years and Jim and all of the photographers who captured our athletes in action and made them local heroes. Hopefully, at some point in the future another daily newspaper will spring up that will cover Northern Kentucky news and sports the way that the Post did - but until then there will be a void in our lives.
