Two short weeks ago the Brossart Mustangs ran roughshod over the St. Patrick
Saints 73-36 in the Bracken County Holiday Tournament, after having led 42-7 at
the half of that one.
If the Mustangs were expecting a repeat perfomance they were in for a rude
awakening, as it was obvious from the onset that the Saints didn't make the trip up
the AA highway on this Friday night for the Gold Star Chili.
Coach Jason Hinson's charges dictated the tempo and shredded the vaunted
Mustang defense for 11 first quarter points and led by as much as 11-3 before
Brian Wolfer entered the game and spearheaded a Mustang mini-rally by scoring 9
points that would see the Mustangs put a nose in front at 15-14 with 5:05 to go in
the half.  St. Patrick was resiliant, battling back to knot the score at 20, despite
falling behind 20-14 at the 2:53 mark.  The Saints completed their 11-2 run as time
expired in the first half and the Saints enjoyed a 25-22 lead at halftime, thanks
somewhat to a pair of clutch 3s by Nick Cropper.
St. Patrick continued to perservere well into the third quarter, and it wouldn't be
until the 3:41 mark of the period that the Mustangs would knot the score at 30 and
then begin to draw off to a 36-32 lead by the quarter's end.
The Saints wore down in the final period and were outscored 16-5 allowing the
homestanding Mustangs to post a 52-37 win.
Unfortunately, the scoreboard may have short-changed the Saints' effort tonight.
This is the fifth consecutive game that our Mustangs have held our opponents
under 40 points.
