| The Brossart Mustangs turned in arguably their top performance of the season in Erlanger on Friday the 13th as the Mustangs earned their fourth NKAC Conference Division II win against one loss, with a 67-47 victory over a very good St. Henry Crusaders basketball team.
Brossart shot out of the gate like a son of Glitterman and opened a quick 12-5 lead on three baskets by Jordan Armstrong and three by Jacob Rieger before the Cru reversed the trend and outscored the visitors 14-2 and took a 19-14 lead at the end of the first quarter. Joey Webb caught fire in the second period, hitting three consecutive 3's as the Mustangs overcame the Cru's 21-14 advantage by laying an 18-6 wallop on the Cru from which they would never recover, as the Mustangs took a 32-27 advantage to the locker room at halftime. Brossart forced a St. Henry time-out early in the second half as the Mustangs added seven points to their lead, before St. Henry got on the board in the third quarter. By the time the dust had cleared at the end of the third quarter, the Mustangs were comfortably on top 46-32 and the Crusader ball was all but on the wall. A 21-15 fourth quarter Mustangs advantage made the final score 67-47. Jacob Rieger led the Mustangs assault with 23 points, while Joe Webb and Drew Kremer put up 14 points each, and Jordan Armstrong added 10 points as four Mustangs registered double-figures. The Mustangs welcomed Senior Brian Wolfer back to the lineup tonight, and the big red-head wasted no time in making an impact, and provided Coach Mike Code the big-body substitute that we have played without for the past four weeks. The Mustangs improve to 17-6 on the season and are assured at least a share of the NKAC conference title with the win over St. Herny. The Mustangs can claim the title for themselves with a win over Newport next Thursday. Break Four Game Win Streak |
| Our JVs who had been playing some of the best basketball in the program over the past few weeks, will have to take a back-seat to the Mustang varsity tonight, as they were outplayed for three quarters before mounting a furious rally that came up four points short, and put an end to the JVs four game win streak and dropped the Stangs back below .500 with the 39-35 road loss.
Brossart trailed 8-6 after a period and 17-10 at the half, as the Cru connected on three 3-balls in the first half. St. Henry tacked on three more points to their lead with a 9-6 third period advantage that saw them lead 26-16. Spearheaded by a pair of Travis Norton long-bombs the Mustangs mounted a furious rally that brought them to within a point at 35-34 late in the game, but the Cru was up to the challenge, improving to 6-8 on the season with the 39-35 victory. Travis Norton led all scorers in the game with 14 points.
