| Mustangs Win On Justin Night - Beat Birds 55-53
Freshmen Make It Two For The Stangs With 44-32 Victory Bluebirds Win The JV Game 42-32 |
| What a difference a week makes!!! I've long been a proponent that you are only as good as your last game, and last week we walked out of the Campbell County Middle School stinging big time from a thumping by the Camels, and here a week later, we upset Highlands, one of the very top teams in the 9th Region, obtaining an early season signature win. This was a very special night in the annals of Brossart Mustangs basketball history - a night when we retired the Number 35 jersey of Justin Seiter. Brossart was out of the gate quickly as Joey Webb dropped a 3-point bomb to open the scoring, which was quickly matched by a bomb by Zach Lother and that was the last time the game would be tied until the second half. The Mustangs led 14-11 after 8 minutes of play. Jacob Rieger scored four field-goals in the first quarter before falling victim to foul trouble. Justin Morscher did a great job spelling Jake, nailing a pair of 3s and a free-throw to preserve the Mustang lead at the half of 29-27. Highlands made several runs in the second half. They tied the game out of the locker room at 29, but the Mustangs were up to the task and re-opened the lead to 7. Each time the Stangs would threaten to put some distance between themselves and the Birds, junior Zach Lother would deliver a 3-point goal to keep his team right in the mix. After leading 40-38 after three periods, with about three minutes to play in the game, the Birds put a nose in front, but the Mustangs were up to the task and went on to prevail 55-53. |

| With the Mustangs on top 54-51, Brian Wolfer, the hero of last night's Calvary win, hit the second of two free-throws to give the Mustangs a two possession lead with 7.8 seconds to play. A conceded layup to Stephen Kowolonek finished out the scoring on the night, and the Mustangs put the Highlands ball on the wall and go 1-0 in the NKAC Divison II conference race.
The Mustangs were led on the scoreboard by Joey Webb with 16 points, 12 of which came from beyond the arc. Jacob Rieger accomplished the double-double despite being saddled with foul trouble, and then being platooned in the second half, finishing the night with 14 points. Justin Morscher tacked on 9 points on the night, and Drew Kremer drew rave reviews for his intensity level from his coach in his post-game interview. Little Zach Lother and BIG Tyler Grubbs led the Highlands Bluebirds in the scoring column with 12 points apiece. Brossart improves to 4-1 on the season and the Bluebirds fall to 4-2 after falling to both Campbell County Catholics on back-to-back nights. |
