Brossart vs Cooper
JV and Varsity
Janaury 13th, 2009
Mustangs Have Their Way With Fledgling Cooper Jaguars 59-30
Joey Webb and Jake Rieger Combine For 28, With 14 Points Each
JVs Win Second Straight 34-30 - Travis Norton Paces Winners With 8
The Brossart Mustangs added to the first-year varsity Cooper Jaguar's woes, on Tuesday night in Union,
Kentucky, cruising over Coach Tim Sullivan's boys, 59-30.
In both the JV and Varsity games the Jaguars led out of the gate, only to be overtaken by the Mustangs in
the main event 13-9 after a quarter of play, and have that lead widen to 26-17 at intermission.  The Mustangs
turned in a dominating 18-3 third quarter, giving the Stangs  a 46-20 lead after three periods, allowing
Coach Mike Code to exercise his bench liberally throughout the fourth quarter, edging the home team
13-10, for a final score of 59-30.
Joey Webb connected on three 3s, contributing to a 14 point performance, matching that of Jacob Rieger's
14 point output.  Rieger also contributed one from beyond the arc, but took the free-throw route, hitting on
5 of 6 to accumulate his 14 points.
The Mustangs third double-figure scorer in the contest was Drew Kremer who added ten points on the night.
This marks the sixth straight game that the Mustangs' stingy defense allowed 41 points or under.  Brossart
now leads the state in defensive average at 39 points and change, given up.
The stage is now set for Friday night's showdown with the red-hot Scott Eagles.  Brad Carr's Eagles defeated
Campbell County 53-51 in Taylor Mill on Tuesday night, giving all three of the primary 37th District
contenders a loss in the district seeding race.  A win by Scott over Brossart would give the Eagles a top seed
in the later-to-come 37th District Tournament, and a win by our Mustangs over  Scott, would force a blind
draw for the first, second, and third seeds.

JV Coach Curtis Bezold's Mustang JVs posted their second win in as many days, in similar styles, defeating
Cooper 34-30 in a game that wasn't decided until Dylan Dierig connected on two free-throws with 4 seconds
to go in the game.
While it was one of those games that was close on the scoreboard, I never had the feeling that our JVs were in
serious jeopardy, but knew in the back of my mind, that this Cooper JV team's one win came at the expense
of Calvary Christian, who had tagged a loss on our Mustangs back at home, earlier this season.
Just prior to the buzzer ending the first-half, Dylan Dierig intercepted a Jaguar inbounds pass, and heaved it
skyward.  It found its mark and gave the Stangs a 22-17 halftime lead.  That basket would prove the
insurance needed to maintain a lead throughout the second half.
Eight Mustangs put ink in the scorebook, led by Travis Norton with 8 points.
Cooper was paced by Cody Hare who led all scorers with 11 points.
