Crosstown Classic Trophy To Reside At CCHS For 2nd Year Freshmen Camels Rally From Halftime Deficit To Beat Mustang Freshmen 40-25 JVs Squander Late Game 29-21 Lead - Beaten In Deep Stretch 34-31 By Nate Losey "3" Varsity Camels Overwhelm Mustangs 45-27 In Replay Of Last Year's Classic |
| Campbell County swept the Alexandria Business Association Classic Tripleheader on Saturday, defeating our freshmen Mustangs 40-25, after having to overcome a 15-14 Brossart halftime lead. Campbell County grabbed the lead with a pair of buckets out of the locker room to start the second half and never looked back. Our freshmen found the Middle School rims to be impenetrable, a trend that would extend through the varsity game. The Brossart Mustang JVs appeared to be well on their way to duplicating the efforts of last year's JV Team, ahead 29-21 with less than three minutes to play, when the Camels began to chip away at the Mustang lead that would culminate with a Nate Losey three-point goal with just seconds to play, putting the Camels in front 32-31 and a pair of Corey Cox free-throws sealed the deal, as the JV Camels prevailed 34-31 in the day's second event. Mitch Patterson got the varsity Mustangs out of the gate in the feature game, hitting our first three-point goal attempt, which would prove to also be our last three-point goal on the night - sixteen more attempts would miss their mark. The 3-0 Brossart lead would be short-lived as Campbell County went on a 13-0 run as Patrick Nerl, Jordan Smith, and Ben Franzen all rained 3-balls on the Stangs. The first quarter ended with the Camels in charge 19-11 and an ensuing 3 point quarter by the greenclads sent the Mustangs to the locker-room trailing 28-14 at the half. Things didn't improve in the second half, as again Brossart could only manage 3 points again in the third quarter, giving the Camels an insurmountable 39-17 bulge, which would play out to a 45-27 Campbell County win - very reminiscent of last year's 46-25 Camels . After Brossart won this event in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006, Campbell County will now house the Alexandria Crosstown trophy for the second year in succession. |
