Cougar JVs Upset Homestanding Mustangs 43-35 Senior Brian Wolfer Leads All Scorers With 18 Point Performance Congratulations To John Schack Who Scored His First Varsity Basket In the Game |
| The Brossart Mustangs proved again that there is no place like home, putting a chink in the Calvary Christian Cougar's undefeated season, as the Cougars ventured outside of Divsion III competition for the first time this season. Following the upset of the Mustang JVs, the Cougar varsity opened up a 7-0 lead to start the game, drawing a quick Mike Code timeout. Three point goals by Jordan Armstrong and Joey Webb, along with a basket by Jacob Rieger and a free-throw by Brian Wolfer made it a 9-9 game, when Mitch Patterson put the Mustangs on top for good with a three-point goal just ahead of the horn, giving the Stangs a 12-9 lead after 8 minutes of play. Brossart exploded for 23 points in the second quarter increasing their lead to 35-17 at the half, and for all intents and purposes this one was in the books. Brian Wolfer turned in a career high 18 points on the night to lead all scorers. Jordan Armstrong added 12, including a pair of 3-point longballs. The Mustangs improve to 3-1 on the season with the win and are now 1-1 in the 37th District seeding race. Calvary falls to 4-1. |
| Calvary Cougars Post First-Ever Hoops Win Over Mustangs With 43-35 JV Score In the prelim, Calvary Christian won their first-ever game in JV-Varsity competition with the Mustangs, dating back to the startup of the BB-Calvary series back in Janaury of 2006. The Cougars outplayed our guys in the first, second, and fourth quarters, winning the game 43-35. Brossart cut the Cougars lead to 26-24 after outscoring the visitors 10-2 in the third quarter, but the Cougars had something left in the tank and prevailed 43-35. Cougar sophomore Darren Bray set the tone by bottoming out four 3-Point goals in the first half. His 12 point performance led all scorers. Tucker Glass picked up the slack in the second half, putting up 11 points on the night.
