Freshmen Thoroughbreds Win By A Nose - 40-38
Morse Explodes For 12 Second Quarter Points Leads All Scorers with 18 points
Matt Kramer Leads Eight Mustang Scorers With 8
The Brossart Mustangs missed a golden opportunity to grab an
early lead and set the tone for the contest, by missing on their
first several close-in shots, and had to settle for a 6-3 advantage
after one period.
In the second quarter the difference was obvious - one team had
Evan Morse, and the other one didn't.   Morse exploded for 12 of
his game-high 18 points in that quarter, knotting the score at 17
each at the break.
A good defensive adjustment by the Mustangs coaching staff at
halftime limited the NewCath post player to six points for the
remainder of the game, but Nick Wolterman and Zach Ryan
picked up the slack and outlasted the Stangs 40-38.
Brossart's Trevor Barth had a chance to win it at the buzzer, but
his rushed shot from beyond the arc was strong and the Breds
escaped with the NKAC Division II Conference victory.
Matt Kramer came off the bench and pitched a big one,
executing his offensive fundamentals to perfection, allowing him
to lead eight Stangs in the scoring column with 8 points.  Zach
Fardo added 7 with Trevor Bezold and Spencer Brown
contributing 6 apiece.
Many of the combatants last night were teammates just one year ago.  Morse, Ryan, R.J. Gerding  (NCC), Corey Kramer, and Zach Fardo (BB) all
wore St. Joe Bluejay jerseys last year while finishing as the Diocesan 8th Grade Runners-up, and Austin Trentman, Matt Kramer (BB) and Matt
Broering (NCC) all plied their trade at St. Mary for Rick Williams' 8th Grade Saints.
