| 2008-2009 Freshmen Mustangs Go 2-2 In Holy Cross Holiday Invitational Tournament December 26, 27, 28, 29th, 2008 |
| Simon Kenton Humble Freshmen Mustangs 35-27, Avenging Earlier Season 54-30 Loss Despite 14 Point Effort By Zach Fardo |
| Our Mustang freshmen took the off-ramp on the road to success, going belly-up in their opening round effort in the 2009 Holy Cross Holiday Tournament falling to Simon Kenton, who we had defeated handily 54-30 back on December 1st. The Mustang defense allowed the Pioneers only 35 points, but the offense sputtered, as no big man could muster more than 4 points on the day. Zach Fardo did his best to put the team on his shoulders, putting 14 points on the board, but it was not enough to avert the upset, sending the Freshmen Stangs to the losers bracket. |

| Freshmen Defensive Effort Puts Second Highlands Ball On The Wall 38-30
Mustangs Rally From Early 12-4 Deficit To Beat Birds - Earn Rematch With NCC Monday Night at 6:40pm |
| Freshman Head Coach Mike Schack couldn't have been happier with his team's performance on Sunday night in the Holy Cross Invitational Holiday Tournament, in a contest he labeled their "top defensive effort of the season." He said to make sure that I spelled out that if you were not there you missed one (opposite of heaven) of a game. Unfortunately, I wasn't there since we developed a freezer problem at Subway at 4pm which wasn't resolved until after 6pm.
The hungry Highlands Bluebirds established a 12-4 early game lead, which Brossart cut to 12-7 by the end of the first period on a Corey Kramer three-pointer, and the defense held the Birds to merely 3 points total in the second stanza, as the guys in green outscored the Birds 11-3 to take a 18-15 lead to the locker room at halftime. The stingy Brossart defense allowed only three more points to the Birds in the third quarter as the Mustangs edged away 23-18. Both teams made numerous trips to the free-throw stripe in the fourth quarter which saw our guys prevail 15-12 and post the 38-30 victory. Zach Fardo paced the Mustangs with 11 and Austin Hinkel tacked on 8, as the Mustangs imporve to 2-1 in the tournament and 7-3 on the season. They will take on Newport Central Catholic at 6:40pm on Monday for third place. Brossart owes the Breds one, having lost 40-38 to the visiting Thoroughbreds back on December 11th. Box Score: BB: LKramer 1-0-0/0-2, CKramer 0-1-2/4-5, Bezold 1-0-2/4-4, Fardo 2-2-1/2-11, Trentman 1-0-0/2-2, Brown 2-0-0/2-4 Hinkel 2-0-4/7-8, MKramer 1-0-0/0-2 Totals BB: 10-3- 9/19-38 7-3 Totals H: 8-1-11/22-30 |
| The Brossart Freshmen have played the Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds twice this season and have lost them both by a combined total of 5 points. On Monday night, in the 3rd Place game of the Holy Cross Holiday Tournament, the freshmen bowed to the Breds 40-37.
Back on December 11th Evan Morse was the main perpetrator of the Mustangs demise, as the Breds big man scored 18 of his team's 40 points. Last night Morse had a quiet night, held to 4, primarily due to the defensive efforts of Matt Kramer, but it was Brady Highchew, who did not play in the last encounter while still on the football team, who ran roughshod over the Mustangs on this night, accounting for 27 of his team's 40 points. The freshmen Mustangs will return to regular season action on Saturday, January 3rd when they travel to Erlanger for an 4:30pm engagement with NKAC foe, St. Henry. Box Score: BB: CKramer 0-1-0/0-3, Bezold 5-2-0/1-16, Fardo 1-1-2/4-7, Trentman 0-0-1/2-1, Hinkel 2-0-0/0-4, MKramer 3-0-0/0-6 Total Mustangs: 11-4-3/7-37 NC: Highchew 9-1-6/7-27, Miller 0-1-0/0-3, Morse 2-0-0/2-4, Ryan 0-2-0/0-6, Total Breds: 11-4-6/9-40 |
