Mustang Freshmen Topple CovCath 43-32 On Tuesday Night In Park Hills
While the Mustangs JV and Varsity usually get the majority of the ink following their games - Tonight the
headlines belong to the Mustangs' freshmen, 43-32 winners over the Covington Catholic Colonels in Park Hills,
establishing themselves as among the elite frehsmen teams in Northern Kentucky.
The two teams battled toe-to-toe through the first period, with the Mustangs leading narrowly 12-10 after six
minutes. CovCath doubled it up on our guys 10-5 in the second period, dominating the offensive glass, and
scoring a bunch of rebound-stickbacks, giving them a 20-17 edge at the break.
Coach Mike Schack pleaded for more rebounding in the second half, and got it, as the Mustangs again edged
their CovCath counterparts 9-8, largely respoinsible to a Jared Hahn 3 ball, near the end of the third quarter.
The Mustangs' defense turned downright stingy in the forth period, allowing the home team only a single point,
before a meaningless 3 pointer went in from half-court at the final buzzer.
While the game was still a game early in the fourth quarter, Logan Kramer, completed the Kramer-Kramer
double from beyond the arc, hitting on a long-ball that gave the Mustangs a five point advantage, and the lead
Zach Fardo led all scorers with 13 points including a pair of three's and hitting on 7 of 8 from the charity stripe.
Austin Hinkel scored 8 points in the contest, all coming in the pivitol second half, and Trevor Bezold added three
field-goals for 6 points on the night.
CovCath was led by Michael Best, and Zach Fardo and Corey Kramer's former St. Joe, Cold Spring teammate,
Ryan Hayden with 7.
Congratulations to Coach Schack and his Mustang greenies, who will face Dixie Heights on Saturday at noon in

|Freshmen Mustangs Let NoKy Topdog Dixie Heights Off Hook Late
Succumb 38-35 To Now 15-1 Colonels
Our Brossart Mustang Freshmen traveled to Crestview Hills on Saturday for a mid-day bout with the NoKy
Freshmen kingpin, Dixie Heights Colonels. The Colonels, now coached by Brossart youth camp counselor,
Nick Benge, came into the game 14-1, with their lone loss, a two point setback to Cincinnati St. Xavier.
The two teams played dead even in the first quarter that ended at 10-10, but Brossart's offense went on hiatus
in the second period, where we could merely muster a pair of free-throws.
Our guys battled back in the third period, taking a 24-23 lead at the 1:52 mark of the quarter and then
extended the lead to five points, 30-25 with six minutes left to play in the game.
A Jared Hahn three-point goal pushed the Mustangs lead out to 33-25 at the 5:28 mark in the final period,
before the Mustang offense again stalled out, failing to put another point on the board until there were only
24 seconds left in the game. Meanwhile, the Colonels started putting points on the board, cutting into the
Mustangs lead and tied the game 33-33 with 1:38 to go.
The Mustangs would add a late-game field-goal, but it was too little, too late as the Mustangs became victim
number 15 to the homestanding Colonels. Zach Fardo led the Stangs with 8 and Austin Hinkel followed with
7, as neither team produced a double-figure scorer.
