The "Unproven - Under Construction" Brossart Mustangs passed the Silver Grove test in handy fashion overwhelming the Big Trains 74-42 on opening night.
The two teams battled back and forth in the opening minutes of the game and with 3:27 to play in the first period the two teams were knotted at 7.
It wouldn't be until only 1:18 remained in the half until the Silver Grove Big Trains would add points to their tally.  Meanwhile the Brossart Mustangs had put up 25 points, opening up a 32-7 lead - Game, Set, Match, Mustangs!
Credit the things that made the teams that preceeded them successful, for their success again last night against the Big Trains  -  Intensive defense, precision execution on offense, and superior shot selection add up
to wins, and the Mustangs varsity have put their first ball on the wall.
Brossart had a very balanced scoring attack, putting up 13, 21, 21, and 19 points per quarter,  We were led on the night by our PNC Player of the Game, sophomore  Jacob Rieger, who demonstrated why he will be the man depended upon to put the big numbers on the board for the Stangs this season by leading the Mustangs with 15 points in three and a half periods of playing time.  Sophomore counterpart J-Army (Jordan Armstrong), performed like a seasoned veteran collecting double figures with 11 points and Mitch Patterson and Joey Webb adding 9 each.
Steven Pelle, doing his best Corey Pelle imitation,
led all scorers with 18 points for the Trains, with Jeff Morris putting up 12 points, all in the second half.
The Mustangs will practice on Wednesday and be back to the hoops wars on Thursday night here in the SyDome, when St. Henry comes to call for a NKAC
Division II contest.
Coach Bob Rowe's JV Mustangs set the tone for the evening dismantling their Silver Grove counterparts 48-23 in the "6 O'Clock varsity game."
The JVs also presented a balanced scoring attack with 11 of the 13 players on the roster putting ink in the scoreboard.  Joey Webb led the Stang JVs with 10 points, including a pair of 3's, while Brian Wolfer contributed 8, and freshman Travis Norton connecting on a pair of long range 3 point bombs for a total of 6 points.
