The Brossart Mustangs improved to 2-1 on the young season with a 46-43 homestanding win over NKAC Division II rival Lloyd Memorial on Wednesday night.
   It didn't come easy.
Brossart trailed early 4-0 and didn't take the lead in the contest until the 1:48 mark in the first quarter when we poked a nose in front 12-11 and extended the lead to 15-11 after eight minutes. The Mustangs connected on three 3-point goals in the first period, which would be their sum total in that category for the ballgame.
The second quarter would see the Stangs run out to a six point lead, 21-15 and then made it seven at 25-18 and took a four point lead, 27-23, to the locker room at halftime.
Four of the Mustangs' twelve second quarter points were from our "PNC Player of the Game" Drew Kremer, who had a breakout game, scoring a career high total of 13 points on the night.
Brossart looked like we were on the verge of breaking the game open out of the locker room, opening up an eight point lead, our largest of the night at 33-25, but it would be short-lived as the Juggs cut the Mustangs lead to two at 33-31.  The  third quarter ended with the Stangs on top 37-33.
Lloyd threatened several times in the fourth quarter cutting the Mustangs lead to 37-36, 42-40 and drew to within a point at 44-43 with 1:43 to play in the game.
Joey Webb was fouled with 10.6 seconds remaining in the game and hit two ice water blue-chip free-throws to push the Mustang advantage to three, and when Jacob Rieger reeled in the final Juggernaut field goal attempt of the night, the Erlanger Lloyd ball went on the wall - 46-43.
Drew Kremer and Jacob Rieger shared scoring honors with 13 each, and Rieger probably recorded a double-double, pulling in a boatload of rebounds.
The Mustangs improve to 2-1 on the season heading into the Friday night Crosstown Classic vs Campbell County at the Campbell County Middle School.
