| Mustangs Record Second "Complete Game" In Twenty-Four Hours Beat Homestanding Deming Black Devils 65-45 Win 15th Of The Season - Guarantees A Winning Campaign February 16, 2008 |
| Our Brossart Mustangs made a triumphant return to Deming High School on Saturday night, defeating the homestanding Deming Black Devils 65-45, our fourth consecutive victory this year in the DevilDome, site of this season's past 10th Region "A" Tournament. In so doing we avenged an earlier season 56-54 loss to the Black Devils sustained in the Bracken County Polar Bear Holiday Classic, back on December 28th. That was then, and this was now! We picked up right where we left off on Friday night vs Augusta, outscoring the home team 16-10 in the opening stanza, as Mitch Patterson dropped a pair of long-range bombs on the Devils and Joey Webb added a third. Two more Joey Webb 3-balls paved the way for a 16-11 second quarter advantage, sending the Stangs to the locker room on top 32-21. Jacob Rieger put on an offensive exhibition, scoring fourteen points in the third quarter, as Webb and Patterson added another trifecta each in devestating the home team 24-15 in the period and padding our lead at 56-36 with but eight minutes remaining. Webb has now run his season's three-point goal tally to 53. The two squads played even basketball in the final quarter at nine each, giving the Mustangs their fifteenth win of the season, assuring themselves a winning 2007-08 campaign, regardless of what transpires from here out. On the night, Rieger paced the Stangs with 23 points, with Webb checking out with 15. Mitch Patterson and Drew Kremer each recorded 9 point outings. Brossart connected on 10 of 12 from the charity stripe. Deming played without the services of Luke King, who had scored 8 points in our previous encounter. Nathan Mitchell proved to be a worthy substitute, putting 13 points on the board for the Devils, who were led by Kyle King with 17 points. Garth Grause pulled down 16 rebounds on the night. The Mustangs will take Sunday off and be right back to the wars on Monday night at Newport where we will battle the extremely athletic Newport Wildcats. |
