In 66-59 Scott Win In 37th District Clash
Stortz and Rieger Limited By Foul Trouble, Exit Early
The Brossart guard corps was brilliant on Friday night, combining for 46 of our 59 points, but were unable to obtain consistent, meaningful help from the forwards who were plagued with foul trouble throughout and were limited to 13 points on the night.
The Mustangs were whistled for 22 infractions in the game and the Eagles 17, as both teams combined for 55 free-throws between them.  Scott cashed in on 22 of their 32 chances, while the Stangs hit on 16 of 23.
Brossart jumed out to a quick 12-6 lead but were victimized by an Eagles 5-0 run to end the period, with the Stangs on top 12-11.  Scott pretty much dominated the second period, opening up as much as a 28-20 lead as both Stortz and Rieger watched from the sidelines.  The half ended with the Eagles on top 32-25.
Greg Stortz scored two quick field-goals to open play in the second half before picking up his fourth personal and Jacob Rieger did the same.
Neither Stortz nor Rieger scored in the fourth period before fouling out of the game, giving the Eagles a decided big man advantage in the fourth quarter, where they enjoyed the benefits of the double-bonus and scored 11 of their 19 points from the charity stripe.
Our guard corps did an admirable job of keeping the game close.  Drew Kremer had a career night, putting up 16 points, while hitting 10 of his 12 free-throw attempts.  Jordan Armstrong scored 8 of his 15 points, including two long-bombs, in the second period, and Mitch Patterson nailed a pair of threes as part of his 12 point outing.
Brossart now falls to 2-2 in 37th District play, and will await the outcome of next Friday night's Scott-Campbell County clash which will determine the district's top seed and who our Mustangs will face in the 37th District Tournament the first week in March.  Brossart will face the loser of the Scott-Campbell County game.

Put Scott In Catbird Seat To Earn District Top Seed

The Brossart Mustang JVs came to Scott well positioned to capture the top seed in the upcoming 37th District JV Tournament, but came up short 33-30 and will await the results of the Scott-Campbell County game for their fate to be determined.
Dwelt is a horse-racing term that means that the steed remained in the gate for a second or two after the field was dispatched.  The same term could apply to the Mustang JVs in the Scott game as we played poorly and fell behind 17-7 by halftime, and 28-10 shortly thereafter.
From that point on the Stangs seemed to sense the urgency and rallied mightily, outscoring the home team 20-5 to make it close, but close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades, and the Eagles held on to defeat our Mustangs 33-30 in a rather blah outing.
Brossart falls to 3-1 in district play and if the Eagles defeat Campbell County will claim the top seed for themselves.  If not, all three teams will finish district play with a 3-1 record and the seeds will be determined by tie-breaker.
