Freshmen Mustangs Felled 29-23 By District Rival Scott Eagles December 3, 2007
A combination of Scott's defense and Brossart's sputtering offense resulted in a 29-23 homestanding district seeding loss to the visiting Eagles on Monday night. A pair of three point quarters, the first and the last, limited our total scoring output and allowed the Eagles to get a leg up in the post-season
post-season positioning race. Neither team could get untracked early on as the Mustangs could generate only one point, until Dylan Dierig scored a bucket ahead of the buzzer to make it a 6-3 ballgame after six minutes of play, with the visitors on top. A pair of early second period baskets put the Stangs in charge at 7-6 and the two teams battled to 14-14 deadlock at intermission. Dierig scored two of the three Mustang goals in the third quarter, which was good enough to give the Stangs a 6-4 edge for the quarter and a 20-18 advantage with six minutes to play. The similarities stopped their as the Eagles capitalized on their opportunities from the free-throw line, hitting on five of nine charity tosses, enroute to outscoring the home team 11-3 and depriving the home team of their first win of the season, 29-23. The Brossart freshmen will attempt to make amends on Wednesday at 4:30pm when the Lloyd Memorial Juggernauts come to call for an NKAC Division II bout.
