Scott Stunned By Late Brossart Rally As Mustangs Capture 37th District Top Seed in 59-47 Come From Behind Victory January 16, 2007 |
It had to be de'jevu all over again for the Scott Eagles who saw the Mustangs overcome a 14 point Eagles lead in last spring's District Tournament to capture the District crown. On Tuesday night, just when the Scott Eagles and their fans began to feel secure with their ten point lead 43-33 with 6:49 to go in the game, momentum got tired of its romance with the Eagles and was switched suitors to the Brossart Mustangs. A pair of Jimmy Uebel three point goals, cutting the Eagles lead to 43-39 lured Big Mo into a home white uniform with 6:03 left to play in the game, and for the first time in the game the Eagles were unable to answer and the Mustangs unleashed a scoring barrage, which resulted in a 26-6 Mustang advantage in the fourth quarter, resulting in a 59-47 Mustang victory. The win earned the Mustangs the 37th District top seed in the upcoming district tournament. Conjecture has the Mustangs possibly matching up with the winner of the SilverGrove - Calvary game, while the Scott Eagles could very possibly get the Campbell County Camels as their district opponent in the first week in March. . Jimmy Uebel opened the game with a pair of three point goals, after which the Eagles went on a 12-0 run to take a 12-6 lead after the first period of play. The two teams would battle to a one point Scott advantage 18-17, sending our Stangs to the locker room trailing 30-23 at halftime. Brossart would try to rally out of the locker room at halftime, but each time the Mustangs would throw down the gauntlet to the Eagles, the visitors were up to the task and the Mustangs were unable to cut into the Eagles lead, and trailed 41-33 as the game entered the home stretch and the Mustangs demonstrated their fourth quarter spurtability by putting up 26 fourth quarter tallies. BOX SCORE: Kidney 1-0-3/4-5, Lloyd 1-0-0/1-3, Niemeyer 3-1-0/0-9, Kramer 0-0-4/6-4, Uebel 3-5-0/0-21, Cooper 7-0-3/5-17 Total Mustangs: 15-6-11/16-59 13-2 3-0 Total Eagles 11-7- 5/14-47 10-7 |
Former St. Joe Bluejay Legendary Head Coach and former Brossart Mustangs Assistant Freshmen Coach Kevin Gray returned to the SyDome sidelines and took the measure of the JV Mustangs 53-27 in a game that the Mustangs led 23-20 with just over a minute to go in the first half. Little did we know at that point that the next time that the Mustangs JV would score would be when trailing 47-25 with only 1:55 left in the game, after being victimized by a 27-0 Scott Eagle run. The Mustangs now have two district losses, the other coming to Campbell County and will probably have to slug it out again with the Eagles in the District Tournament. Freshman Jacob Rieger led an anemic Mustang offensive attack with five points. while the Eagles were led by Jordan Adkins with 16. The Mustangs fall to 9-4 on the season while the Eagles improve to 7-3. |
