Mustangs Dodge The Notorious "A" State Jinx - Nose NCC 46-45
In Welcome Back To The Realities Of The Regular Season Game

Mustangs Improve To 22-3 On Season And 4-0 In NKAC Div II Race
Jimmy Uebel Hits A Clutch Three And Sinks Two Pressure Free Throws To Save The Day For The Mustangs
The Brossart Mustangs almost had the NCC Thoroughbreds rain all over their All "A" State Championship parade, or in this case would have put a damper on the Brossart Mustangs reception/celebration to take place Sunday afternoon.
One year ago, 2006 "A" State Champ Bardstown took a 14 point loss to 10-17 Nelson County in their return engagement to regular season play.  Our Mustangs, who were defeated by Bardstown in the 2006 Semi-Finals, came home and lost our next six games.
Assuming that the weeklong break would benefit the Mustang recovery, and the fact that our senior-laden ballclub practiced superbly over the past two days, we expected our Mustangs to perform business as usual.
At the onset it appeared that the aforementioned scenerio would play out, as the Breds, playing without the services of Zach Kiernan, fell behind early 12-6 after a period and 19-9 with 4:34 remaining in the second quarter.
It was then that momentum climbed into a blue uniform and the Thoroughbreds went on a 15-2 run, bringing our Mustangs down to earth and sending us to the locker room deadlocked at 24 at the half.
Brossart managed to labor out to a shortlived 33-27 lead late in the third quarter, but again the Breds battled back to within two at 36-34 with eight minutes left to play.
It was Newcath who established a lead 41-36 with 5:04 to go in the game, and when Kyle Kramer uncorked a 3 ball that hit dead-center at the same time that the Mustangs bench signaled a time-out nullifying the Kramer bomb, it demonstrated that Murphy's Law was working against us at full force.
Blue-Chipper Jimmy Uebel hit a "3" in the same possession as the ill-fated time-out in blue-chip time, and then followed that up with two huge free-throws rallying the Mustangs to a 46-45 lead that would hold up, improving the Mustangs record to 22-3 on the season and 4-0 in the NKAC Division II race.
The Mustangs were led by Uebel with fourteen points, twelve of which came in the second half and eight in the decisive fourth quarter.  Luke Rebholz came from off the bench to nail two three-point goals and finish the night with eleven points.  Troy Cooper was the third Mustang finishing in double figures with ten.  "Battleship" Bryan Niemeyer just missed scoring double figures, hitting on nine for the night.

BOX SCORE:  Kidney 1-0-0/0-2,
        Rebholz 0-2-5/6-11, Niemeyer 3-1-0/2-9
        Uebel 3-1-5/9-14, Cooper 4-0-2/4-10

Total Mustangs:  11-4-12/21-46   22-3   4-0
Total Breds:        10-5-10/16-45
Brossart dispatched the NCC JVs in handy fashion, the night after the Breds defeated CovCath in Park Hills less than twenty-four hours prior.
Brian Wolfer hit three consecutive up and under baskets enroute to a ten point night, leading eight Mustang scorers.    Brossart led 11-8, 23-15, 32-19, and 37-22.
The Mustangs' defense held the Breds to four points in the third quarter and three points in the final period.
The JV Mustangs improve to 12-5 on the season and 4-0 in the NKAC Division II race.

Box Score:  Patterson 1-1-0/0-5,
       Webb 0-0-2/2-2, Ridder 2-0-0/0-4,
       Rieger 1-1-1/2-6, Wolfer 4-0-2/2-8,
       Barth 1-0-0/0-2, Weyman 2-0-0/0-4

Total Mustangs:  12-2-5/6-37    12-5    4-0
Total Breds:         7-1-5/9-22      9-7
