Mustangs Fight Off Stubborn
Silver Grove To Earn Trip To
10th Region Big Dance
Will Face Scott In 37th Finals
Silver Grove proved a very worthy adversary, leaving everything they had on the floor of the Campbell County Middle School as the Brossart Mustang had to earn their way into the 37th District Championship Game on Friday night and more importantly a berth in next week's 10th Region Tournament on the Grand Stage of the Mason County Fieldhouse.

Early on the game seemed to mirror the contest played here back in late Janaury in the 10th Region "A" Semis when the Mustangs prevailed 67-38.  Again last night the Trains ran out to an early lead of 11-5, before the Mustangs mounted a rally to take the lead 17-16 at the start of the second period which became a 28-20 bulge by halftime as Adam Franzen delivered three long range goals from beyond the arc to spearhead the Mustang rally.  Brossart outscored the Trains 14-4 in the second period..

When the Mustangs pushed out to a 35-20 just into the second half it appeared that the result would be much the same as the last time out - Not To Be!
Silver Grove rose to the occasion and began chipping away into the Mustang lead which had shrunk to six at the end of the third period, 44-38.  Corey and Justin Pelle accounted for all 18 of the Big Trains points in the 3rd Quarter.

The Big Trains would conjure up flashbacks of a similar event which took place in this same venue two years back when they cut the Mustangs lead to two at 44-42 and were in possession of the basketball.  The Mustangs dodged that Big Train bullet and Kyle Lubbers scored a field goal and two ensuing free-throws to turn back the Trains and re-establish a 48-42 six point Mustang lead that we would not relinquish from that point.

This game would have a happy ending as the Mustangs were up to the challenge behind a big finale by Kyle Lubbers who finished some great Jimmy Uebel passes as the Mustangs defeat the valiant Big Trains 62-52.

We will face Scott on Friday night at 7pm in the finals and return to the Grand Stage of the Mason County Fieldhouse next week after a two-year hiatus.
