Mustangs Pitch A Defensive Gem In 62-29 Win Over 17-3 Barbourville To Advance To Final Four Of "A" State Tournament
Mustangs Defense Limits Tigers To One Touchdown
(7 Points) In The First Half

Jimmy Uebel Drains Three-Threes - Named MVP
The Brossart Mustangs showed the Barbourville Tigers just what great defense really is.  The high-potency Tiger offense which had previously been averaging over 70 points a game while producing seventeen wins this season, was limited to merely seven points in the first half and twenty-nine for the game as the Mustangs advanced to Saturday's semi-finals vs Bardstown with the 62-29 decision in a contest which ended well past midnight on Friday night.
The Wildcats may have sensed that it was going to be a long night as the Mustangs again jumped out to an early 10-0 lead, enroute to a 15-2 first quarter lead.  Troy Cooper was responsible for seven of those fifteen points.  Adam Franzen picked up the slack in the second period with five points, one on a shot beyond the arc and one just inches short of it.
Brossart led 24-7 at intermission after which Jimmy Uebel administered the coup de grace by hitting a pair of bookend three point goals helping the guys in green extend their lead to 42-20 as the JVs allowed the varsity to become spectators for the best part of the remainder of the game.  The Mustangs improve to 15-5 on the season and the Barbourville Tigers fall to 17-3 while wondering what had just hit them.  We have now completed the fifth step in our seven-step program to win the 2006 Touchstone Energy All "A" State Tournament.
Troy Cooper led all scorers with 14 points, Jimmy Uebel put up 11, Nathan Mutsch 9, Kyle Lubbers 7, Adam Franzen 6, Brad Seiter 5, Kyle Kramer 4, and Josh Kidney, Luke Rebholz, and Matthew Hansman all added a bucket apiece.
On the merits of our win over Barbourville, the New Era Mustangs become only the second Mustang team in history to advance to the "A" State Semis or beyond.
