Mustangs Capture 37th District
Top Seed With 77-56
Win Over Scott Eagles
Scott Assistant Coach Chris Schreiber must have been experiencing some mixed emotions as he watched Mustang senior Kyle Lubbers come from off the bench, neutralize Scott bigman Kyle Howard and finish off numerous assists from Jimmy Uebel offensively to earn his coach's MVP nod.  Schreiber was very much responsible for developing Lubbers who was very raw as a freshmen (and I'm being complimentary) and pointed him in the direction which landed him at Scott last night helping defeat Schreiber's Scott Eagles.
Cooper and Lubbers combined to hold Howard to three field-goals and a total of 12 points on the night and only three in the pivotal second half.  Cooper was strapped with three first half personal fouls and a quick fourth just into the second half.
Cooper still saw sufficient PT to lead all scorers with 18 points, all coming in the first and fourth quarters.
The Mustangs opened a 14-13 lead after a period of play and were kept in the game by Jimmy Uebel who hit two big threes to help overcome some adversity and allow the Stangs to take a 32-27 lead to the locker-room at halftime.
The game was decided in the third quarter as the Mustangs delivered a patented third period domination of the Eagles, holding the home team to seven free-throws and no field-goals as we put 23 points on the board to take a 55-34 lead while Lubbers was doing his best to reject all of the Scott field-goal attempts as they brought them into his house deep in the paint.
The Mustangs and Eagles played ask and answer through the fourth period as both put up 22 points to provide the final score of 77-56.  The Mustangs connected on 25 of 30 free throws for 83% from the line.
The implications of the Mustangs' win last night is that we
are now the 37th District Top Seed for the upcoming district tournament during the first week in March where we will likely play the winner of the Silver Grove/Calvary Christian game for a berth in the 10th Region Tournament.
