Mustangs Win 4th Straight Crosstown
Any Questions???

JVs Win 30th Straight 32-25
Camels Salvage Freshmen Game 45-23
One Crosstown, Two Crosstowns, Three Crosstowns, Four.....
The Camel Student Section chanted YOU CAN'T STOP US as their team opened up an 11-5 first quarter advantage with Brett White, Marcus Clines, and Jonathan Verst picking apart the Mustang defense while the Camels were also the aggressors on defense limiting the Stangs to a 5 point quarter and the Mustangs faithful questioning whether they were right.
Brossart battled back to start the 2nd quarter by outscoring the Camels 10-4 to knot the score at 15 and then poke a nose in front at 16-15 on a Nathan Mutsch free throw.  The two squads asked and answered each other with the Camels prevailing 23-20 at intermission.
Momentum would wear a white uniform throughout the entire third period which would see the Mustangs "Play Like Us", outscoring the Camels 20-2 taking a 40-25 lead, effecting a 23 point turn-around from when the Stangs trailed 5-13 early on in the first quarter.  It was then the Mustang fans turn to chant YOU CAN'T STOP US, and the Camels didn't.  The Stangs would go on to lead by as many as 23 at the 4:41 mark in the fourth period and the Mustangs were enroute to winning their fourth consecutive Crosstown Classic.  The unique thing about this impending 61-47 win was the fact that this was a whole different team than won the previous three Camel encounters and this one came over the Camels "Dream Team."    The Stangs now lead the series 6-3.

Mustang JVs Win Ugly 32-25
Defy Laws Of How To Properly
Win A Basketball Game
Improve to 3-0 and
Give Coach Bob Rowe
His 30th Successive JV Victory
Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.........
I started my post-game interview with Coach Bob Rowe by making a statement about the BB-CC JV game not being the prettiest game ever played in the Middle School Mausoleum and was somewhat taken aback when the normally critical coach defended his team, and was as pleased as if they had played a Picasso.
Apparently his Stangs had followed his script and that the helter-skelter offense and in-your-face defense was in accordance with his game plan of beating the Crosstown Camels.  Whatever, it worked.
He even came within a hair of excusing the unenviable 0-14 free-throw streak that his team mustered in the final period writing off the normally hot shooting JV Stangs inaccuracy to fatigue.
He complimented the play of the five or six Mustangs who saw the majority of the playing time and was thrilled to get the win.
The Stangs edged the Camels 9-8 in the first period on four for four free-throw shooting by sophomore Greg Stortz who drew rave reviews from his coach for his efforts in this game.  Brossart would outscore their crosstown counterparts 12-1 in the second period while hitting on 9 of 14 from the charity stripe in the first half, pushing the advantage out to 21-9 and position the Stangs to win their third game of the season, gain an advantage in the seeding race, and present their coach with his 30th consecutive official (40th unofficial) JV victory.
The second half would turn ugly as the Stangs could muster only 5 points in the third period and 6 in the finale, while being outscored 14-11 while in the midst of a composite 2 of 17 drought from what had turned into the chastity stripe.
All's well that ends well as the Stangs were able to borrow from their first half advantage to hang on and win the game 32-25.
Bryan Niemeyer led the Stangs with 9 and Kenny "Sky" Walker paced the Camels with 8.
Brossart would improve to 3-0 on the season and the Camels would fall to 3-1 on the year.
