In January, 2001 Brossart High School hosted the 10th Region Touchstone Energy All "A" Classic. Silver Grove advanced to the finals by beating MMA, Bracken County, and St. Patrick. Brossart had defeated Paris and Nicholas County to earn a berth in the regional finals. The long anticipated, highly hyped Brossart - Silver Grove matchup finally took place on January 22nd before the largest crowd to ever witness a ballgame in the Tom Seither Sportscenter. The 7:30pm game sold out at 6:20pm and Hegeanuer Hall filled to capacity to watch the game on closed circuit TV. The Silver Grove Big Trains entered the game with a record of 17 wins and 0 losses. Brossart, who had been playing an arguably tougher schedule, came in at 11-7.
The game was actually never in dobt, the Mustangs dominated throughout and won handily 65-51 to capture their first ever All "A" Regional Championship and earn a berth in the All "A" State in McBrayer Arena on the campus of EKU in Richmond, Ky. There the Mustangs fell to Allen-Central 46-48 in the first round of the tournament in a great ballgame.
